One of TNT’s most celebrated dramas is heading to Netflix this December. The Closer, which ran for seven critically acclaimed seasons from 2005 to 2012, will make its streaming debut on the platform on December 22nd, exclusively in the United States.

Not to be confused with Dave Chappelle’s Netflix special or the 2004 Julia Roberts movie, The Closer was a police procedural drama, the long-running crime series led by Kyra Sedgwick as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, a talented CIA-trained interrogator from Atlanta who becomes the head of a special LAPD unit, whose unorthodox methods and Southern charm help crack complex cases. She’s joined by an impressive ensemble, including J.K. Simmons, Corey Reynolds, Robert Gossett, and G.W. Bailey.

The series originally concluded its run in 2012, eventually spawning the successful spin-off Major Crimes. The series ultimately ran for seven seasons and 109 episodes, all of which will drop on Netflix.

To our knowledge, this is the first time the series has been made available on Netflix, according to our records, which go back well over a decade.

Where has The Closer been streaming? Upon HBO Max’s launch, it was available to stream there for a period of time, though it appears to have been removed in May 2023. Since then, the series has been available on Peacock, according to JustWatch, as well as for purchase on VOD.

This is one of many Warner Bros. Television-owned shows we’re told will be heading to Netflix in the United States in the coming months, with The West Wing recently confirmed for release in December as well. Others are on the way, too, although we won’t report on them until we have locked dates and regional specifics.

How long will The Closer remain on Netflix? That’s unclear for the moment, too. As we’ve seen with most licensing pickups as of late, they’re often for shorter windows than we’d have seen throughout the 2010s. It could be anywhere from a year up to a few at the max.

Are you going to rewatch The Closer or watch it for the first time? Let us know in the comments down below. For more on what’s coming to Netflix throughout December 2025, keep it locked here on What’s on Netflix.
