Catherine, the Princess of Wales, made a classy comeback to her public-facing role as a member of the royal family last night. She attended the 2025 Royal Variety Performance in London. This marks Princess Kate’s return after she had to give the annual fundraising charity show a miss due to her cancer diagnosis and break from royal engagements.

Her husband, William, is the heir to the British throne and Prince of Wales, accompanied her to the event. This is the sixth time that the royal couple, who have been married for 14 years, have attended the Variety Performance. This charity raises money for the Royal Variety Charity – an organisation that supports impoverished and elderly entertainers.

Princess Catherine’s Royal Emerald Look

For the occasion, Kate wore an elegant design from Talbot Runhof. The body-hugging dress had a festive flair with its dark green velvet and subtle, flared mermaid skirt. While the Princess of Wales usually dresses very modestly in keeping with the royal standards, this dress did have a slightly more plunging neckline, with the fabric along the bodice rolled up at the chest to give the appearance that she was wearing a matching shrug, but it was all one piece, reported Bazaar UK.

To complete her look, Catherine wore matching forest-green pumps from Manolo Blahnik and accessorised with a mini, crystal-adorned mirror clutch from Jenny Packham. While the dress was subtle, the Princess did bling up the outfit with a diamond bangle bracelet and chandelier Greville earrings that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.

The mother to three was accompanied by her husband, William, the Prince of Wales and the heir to the British crown. All smiles and looking sharp, the Prince wore a classic black tuxedo.

Kate Middleton Makes a Comeback to Public Engagements

In March 2024, Kate, the wife of Prince William, announced publicly that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. The mother-of-three has not disclosed the type of cancer with which she was diagnosed.

And in January this year, the Princess of Wales made an announcement that her cancer was in remission. She wrote on social media, “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.”

Speaking about her cancer diagnosis, the 43-year-old said it had been “really, really difficult” time in her life. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually [that’s not the case].

Despite this, she recently said she can no longer “function normally at home as [she] perhaps once used to.” She added that finding a “new normal … takes time.”

In 2024, King Charles III and former royal family member Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, also shared their cancer diagnoses.
