New Releases on Netflix This Week & Top 10 Movies & Series: Thanksgiving Weekend

24 new movies and 7 new series dropped this week with The Beast in Me and Champagne Problems topping the US daily charts.

It’s the end of another busy week on Netflix, with 31 new movies and series having landed in the United States over the past seven days. Below, we’ll pick out some of those new titles you need to be watching, give you the complete list of everything new to stream this Thanksgiving weekend, and take a look at what’s been trending in the daily US top 10 charts.

A few movies to look forward to over the weekend, which we won’t get to feature until our roundup next weekend. Julia Garner’s haunting performance in The Assistant drops on Sunday, while the new Austin Butler Sony Pictures film Caught Stealing hits the streamer tomorrow.

Finally, yesterday Wake-Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery dropped in theaters ahead of its Netflix debut on December 11th. Having just got out of the cinema to watch it (I know I’m not contributing to the numbers), it’s a rollercoaster that’s absolutely worth taking, and as with any good murder mystery, go in knowing absolutely nothing.

What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend

Stranger Things (Season 5 – Volume 1)

Number of episodes: 4
Rating: TV-14
Language: English
Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Horror
Cast: Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard
Writer: Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer
Runtime: 51 min

The chances are, if you’re on this page and looking for something new to watch on Netflix, you don’t need another recommendation to watch Stranger Things, as you’ve already demolished all four episodes and now eagerly await volume 2 on Christmas Day. Correct? If the answer is no, you need to correct that instantly.

Reportedly taking Netflix down temporarily upon its primetime release, the new season of Stranger Things is a culmination of 9 years of hard work from the cast and crew who have made one of Netflix’s biggest hits of all time. The new season comes with a lot of expectation set up by the events of season 4, with Hawkins now under assault from the Upside Down. We’re expecting some monster numbers for this next week, and having binged all the episodes in a single sitting myself, I can’t wait to see what’s to come for the remainder of the final season.

Bones & All (2022)

Rating: R
Language: English
Genre: Drama, Horror, Romance
Director: Luca Guadagnino
Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Taylor Russell, Mark Rylance
Writer: David Kajganich, Camille DeAngelis
Runtime: 131 min / 2h 11m

As we’ve been covering, Netflix appears to have struck a new deal with MGM to bring some of its shows and movies to the streamer in both the US and internationally. That began in the US today with one of the distributor’s bigger hits as of late, Bones and All, dropping alongside Dog starring Channing Tatum.

Reuniting with Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino, this atmospheric road-trip romance takes a dark and bloody turn. Set against the backdrop of Reagan-era America, the story follows Maren (played by breakout star Taylor Russell), a young woman living on the margins of society due to her strange and terrifying affliction: a compulsion to eat human flesh. After being abandoned by her father, Maren embarks on a cross-country odyssey to find the mother she never knew, eventually crossing paths with Lee (Timothée Chalamet), an intense and disenfranchised drifter who shares her insatiable cravings.

Left-Handed Girl (2025)

Rating: R
Language: Mandarin
Genre: Drama, Family
Director: Shih-Ching Tsou
Cast: Janel Tsai, Nina Ye, Akio Chen
Writer: Sean Baker, Shih-Ching Tsou
Runtime: 108 min / 1h 48m

Suppose you’re looking for something entirely different and one of Netflix’s strongest hopes of getting an international Oscar nod. In that case, we turn to Left-Handed Girl, which was given the unfortunate task of being launched in the shadow of Stranger Things, but nevertheless, we hope it will find an audience.

In the film, you’ll follow a mother who uproots her life and brings her two daughters to Taipei, where they dive into the chaos and color of a bustling night market to launch a modest noodle stand. The move is meant to be a clean slate, yet the steam from the broth barely rises before old secrets, buried tensions, and the weight of family tradition push against their newfound hopes. The city offers possibilities, but it also has a way of stirring everything they thought they’d left behind, setting the stage for a fresh start that’s anything but simple.

In our review, published today, we gave it a four-star rating, dubbing it one of the best Netflix movies of the year, adding, “Left-Handed Girl brings the level of authenticity of several past Sean Baker films with the exceptional detail & care from writer/director Shih-Ching Tsou. Outstanding young actor performances from relative newcomers Nina Ye & Shih-Yuan Ma made all the more impressive as the family dynamic shifts throughout the film.”
