Netflix Sets Release Date For Next Ricky Gervais Standup Special Titled Mortality

As recently hinted at by Ted Sarandos, Ricky Gervais is bringing his latest comedy tour to Netflix over the Christmas period with Ricky Gervais: Mortality, confirmed for a global Netflix release on December 30th, 2025.

The special was filmed during the London Palladium stop-off of the global tour, which took the comic across the United Kingdom, Europe, Canada, and the United States. The special sees the comic eaning into material that refuses to tiptoe around difficult ideas. As Netflix puts it, “no topic is off limits,” and Gervais uses that freedom to push into the sharp, uneasy territory he’s become known for.

The special “further solidifies his reputation as one of the most influential voices in comedy,” framing his trademark irreverence around the one subject none of us can dodge: his own mortality. It promises a blend of “brutally honest and darkly funny” reflections on life, death, and the state of the world, all filtered through Gervais’s particular knack for turning discomfort into laughter.

This marks the fourth special from the comic for Netflix in addition to his scripted projects like Derek and After Life. It all began with Humanity in 2018, followed by Supernature in 2022 and Armageddon in 2023.

The specials continue to do well on Netflix, with all three garnering 28.9M views from 2023 through mid-2025, according to the Netflix Engagement Reports. 

In a press release, Gervais said about the new special, “I think Mortality is my most honest and confessional show so far, and also my favourite tour. I still can’t believe what a privilege it is to fly around the world making people laugh.”

Ricky Gervais: Mortality is written and performed by Ricky Gervais, with Clyde Holcroft producing and John L Spencer directing. Duncan Hayes serves as executive producer, bringing the project together behind the scenes to support Gervais’s latest stand-up outing.

2026 will be a busy year for Ricky Gervais as his new animated series, Alley Cats, is due out in the second half of 2026. Having seen a clip, it’s a good one, and if you were a fan of After Life, particularly the bloopers, this is going to be right up your, ahem, Alley.
