Netflix Poland Unveils Five New Upcoming Movie and TV Projects
Łukasz Kłuskiewicz, Netflix’s new Director of Content for Central and Eastern Europe, has announced an ambitious slate of local productions and emphasized the crucial role of Polish creators within the company’s expanding global portfolio. “Our ambition is to build an offering as diverse as the tastes of Polish viewers – because the viewer is at the center of everything we do,” said Kłuskiewicz. Here’s a look at the brand-new productions below.
The Polish Netflix market has grown explosively in recent years, driven by series that resonate both nationally and internationally. For example, the second season of 1670 remained in Poland’s Top 10 for weeks after its release and was rewarded with a season 3 renewal well in advance.
Soon, Heweliusz will premiere – a large-scale production inspired by the sinking of the MS Jan Heweliusz ferry in the Baltic Sea in 1993. Directed by Jan Holoubek (High Water), the series is described as a dramatic and deeply human portrayal of one of the most devastating maritime disasters in modern Polish history. The limited series, set to debut on November 5, 2025, was filmed across seventy locations in Poland and Brussels. With over 120 actors, 2,000 vehicles, and 700 tons of water, the crew recreated the storm that caused the ship to capsize in breathtaking detail. Beyond the tragedy at sea, the series also delves into the legal aftermath, where victims’ families fought against the Polish bureaucracy.
But what’s next? Here’s a look at some of the newly announced projects with first looks suggesting all should be landing on our screens in the near future.
Bunt

First up is Bunt, a new drama series from Mateusz Rakowicz (Najmro) and Marek Lechki. Set during the largest prison riot in Polish history, the series follows two former inmates – played by Borys Szyc and Filip Pławiak – who find themselves on opposite sides of a bloody confrontation. As chaos erupts outside the prison walls, they struggle to prevent a massacre inside.
Bunt is positioned as a raw, realistic drama with political undertones that questions power, justice, and humanity under extreme circumstances. The series is expected to premiere sometime in 2026.
Czarna Wołga

With Czarna Wołga, Netflix revisits a legendary urban myth from Polish folklore. In the 1960s and 1970s, rumors spread about a black Volga – a Soviet-era luxury car – that kidnapped children from small villages. Director Piotr Subbotko intertwines this mythic element with a police thriller about an officer, played by Michał Balicki, who becomes a murder suspect while investigating the mystery himself. Robert Więckiewicz and Marianna Zydek also star. Steeped in the atmosphere of communist Poland, the film combines tension and social commentary, exploring fear and power during the PRL era.
Kolory zła: Czer

Following the success of Kolory zła: Czerwień, Jakub Gierszał returns as prosecutor Leopold Bilski in Kolory zła: Czerń. Based on the novel by Małgorzata Oliwia Sobczak, the story follows Bilski as he investigates a gruesome case in a small Kashubian coastal town. Director Adrian Panek blends psychological suspense with social realism: a murder case becomes a mirror reflecting corruption, guilt, and the darker side of human conscience.
Produced by Aneta Hickinbotham and Leszek Bodzak (Ida, Corpus Christi), the film once again promises to be a visually striking and morally complex thriller.
Podlasie

Not all new productions are dark in tone. The comedy Podlasie, directed by Łukasz Kośmicki, takes place in a small village whose residents stage a fake alien landing to attract tourists. Featuring veteran actors Anna Seniuk and Artur Barciś, the film offers a light-hearted, absurd satire on superstition, rural life, and the power of collective imagination.
Znieczulenie

With Znieczulenie, Netflix ventures into an entirely new genre: the medical drama series. Directed by Łukasz Ostalski, it follows neurosurgeon Michał (Leszek Lichota), who loses his career after a failed operation and starts over in a small town. His search for redemption and moral recovery forms the emotional core of the story. The cast also includes Karolina Gruszka, Aleksandra Popławska, and Dorota Kolak.
With this wave of new initiatives, Netflix is cementing its role as a driving force in Poland’s audiovisual landscape. The platform appears determined to give local stories a global stage — proving that the future of European streaming doesn’t begin in Hollywood, but increasingly right here in Europe.
