Kicking off the month are two new playlists coming to Netflix Kids, featuring brand-new and refreshed playlists that delve deep into Netflix’s vast kids animation library to uncover all the spooky episodes and serve them up together. Among the shows featured in the two playlists are Bad Guys, The Cuphead Show, Boss Baby, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, and The Worst Witch. Nothing brand new, we’re afraid, but just a fresh way to watch Netflix’s kids’ Halloween titles.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story

Coming to Netflix: October 3, 2025

Easily the biggest heavy hitter for the Halloween season is the third season of Monster, which follows DAHMER and The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Charlie Hunnam will portray the serial killer, also known by his other names: the Butcher of Plainfield and the Plainfield Ghoul. He may be the worst of the featured subjects thus far with his spree of terror taking place back in the 1950s.

The official description for the upcoming series reads, “Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades. From Psycho to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein’s macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn’t just influence a genre — he became the blueprint for modern horror.”

True Haunting

Coming to Netflix: October 7, 2025

This eerie documentary series reenacts real-life paranormal encounters with interviews, retelling the experiences of those who lived through them, with legendary horror producer James Wan involved. It’ll be spread out over the course of two story arcs, titled “Eerie Hall” and “This House Murdered Me,” with the former featuring 3 episodes directed by Neil Rawles and the latter featuring 2 episodes by Luke Watson.

This isn’t the first time Netflix has tackled a series like this. Haunted, perhaps, is the most similar, with three seasons of that anthology currently streaming. Unsolved Mysteries also featured some similar supernatural episodes.

Is It Cake? Halloween

Coming to Netflix: October 8, 2025

It’s been a while since Netflix released a new batch of episodes of Is It Cake?, which features the simple premise of some of the world’s best bakers coming together to put their skills to the test and bake creations that could be perceived as real objects rather than cakes. Mikey Day is back to host with a big prize on the line. It came as part of a big renewal that’ll see a Valentine’s entry early next year.

The Resurrected

My Father, the BTK Killer

Coming to Netflix: October 10, 2025

My Father The Btk Killer Netflix

A true crime documentary where the daughter of the notorious BTK serial killer shares her chilling experience of discovering her father’s double life.

Fingers crossed this documentary does well and finally convinces Netflix to move forward with the future of Mindhunter, and give it an official season 3 renewal. As you may know, the show had been slowly building up to a big BTK killer reveal.

The Monster of Florence

Coming to Netflix: October 22, 2025

Another serial killer-themed scripted series is also heading to Netflix in October from Italy. This one, set across four episodes, details a serial killer who terrorized couples and was dubbed the first-ever serial killer from the country. The series is created by Leonardo Fasoli and Stefano Sollima, with a cast that includes some well-known Italian stars, such as Marco Bullitta, Valentino Mannias, Francesca Olia, and Liliana Bottone.

The Elixir

Netflix is the home to a surprising number of horror movies from Indonesia, and joining that list this October is The Elixir, which, from early released pictures, looks pretty gruesome. The official description reads, “An elixir unleashes the undead in a village. A family at odds with one another must unite and fight to survive as their hometown collapses.”

Nightmares of Nature: Lost in the Jungle

Coming to Netflix: October 28, 2025 (Season 1 Available In Late September)

Produced by the masters of horror, Blumhouse Television, we’re seeing two seasons of Nightmares of Nature drop in late September and again in late October. The nature docu-series reveals the dark side of survival in the wild, with chilling real-life tales of prey, predators, and the terrifying unpredictability of nature. Both seasons are narrated by Maya Hawke, with Season 1 being dubbed “A Cabin in the Woods” and Season 2 being dubbed “Lost in the Jungle.”

The Witcher (Season 4)

Coming to Netflix: October 30th, 2025

The Witcher is finally back with a fresh new face. With Henry Cavill departing the project and Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role, the series still promises plenty of monsters, ghouls, and other creatures that make it a perfect Halloween watch. The big question is whether fans will stick around after such a major change at the top of the cast list, but we’ll find out soon enough.

Frankenstein

Coming to Netflix: November 7th, 2025

Not arriving over Halloween but rather in early November (unless you’re planning on checking it out in theaters from mid-October onwards), this is Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited venture into the world of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, complete with a stacked cast and visuals to die for. The big-budget movie brings to life the classic tale of a brilliant scientist and the creature his monstrous ambition unleashes. Amongst that killer cast are Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, with Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

Horror Added to Netflix So Far in 2025

Fear Street: Prom Queen

Rewind to 2021, and the Fear Street trilogy, originally destined for theatrical release, was released exclusively on Netflix for a three-month event that went down a treat. It was only a matter of time before Netflix would return to the franchise based on R.L. Stine’s books, and that finally happened in early 2025 with Fear Street: Prom Queen.

Disconnected from that original trilogy, this follow-up sees the senior class of Shadyside High School prepping for their big prom, and as you can probably figure out, they start to go missing – one by one. The cast featured India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, Chris Klein, and David Iacono.

Unfortunately, the movie didn’t quite connect like the original trilogy, with it being one of the worst performers of any new movie released in 2025. That’s also reflected in reviews, with it only carrying a 41 on Metacritic (out of 100) and a 5.1/10 rating from audiences on IMDb.

The Sandman (Season 2)

So much secrecy surrounded The Sandman season 2 during filming, and for good reason. With a massive returning and new cast, and the series working through the remainder of Neil Gaiman’s comics, it had a lot to cover. While not a horror series in the strict sense, it certainly carries spooky vibes, and its holiday-themed costumes and sets make it a perfect binge-watch during the holiday season.

The Summer Hikaru Died

Described as a coming-of-age horror story, this anime received rave reviews from critics upon its initial release back in August, with new episodes rolling out weekly thereafter, with its finale coming up in late September. Based on the comic manga series by Mokumokuren, the stories focus on Yoshiki and Hikaru, who grew up as inseparable best friends in a quiet Japanese village. But everything changes when Hikaru returns from the mountains altered, no longer the boy Yoshiki once knew. Something has slipped into his body, his memories, his emotions—and from that moment on, their world begins to fall apart.

While it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, those who will get into it will no doubt come away with it being their favorite new anime of 2025. As one reviewer put it, the series “is a haunting and beautifully crafted manga that blends psychological horror with deep emotional themes.”

If you’re looking for a zombie movie this Halloween season, you may want to check out the new Thai thriller that was released in July and achieved moderate success in the top 10, garnering 14.7M views in its first three weeks on the platform.

The official synopsis reads, “In a fight for survival against a horrifying army of zombies, a former Muay Thai fighter must use skill, speed and grit to save his girlfriend.”

Horror Movies and Series Coming in 2026 & Beyond

What about even further ahead? As always, Netflix’s horror slate has never been incredibly impressive, but there are several titles to keep an eye on in the years to come. Starting with returning shows, All of Us Are Dead season 2 finally got into production this year, and Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan will be back for a fourth installment of Monster, covering the Lizzie Borden murders. Elsewhere on the TV side, Motel Transylvania was expected to be released in 2025, but that now appears to be pushed to 2026. Similarly, coming in 2026 is a new show executive-produced by the Duffer Brothers called Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen.

An adaptation of Bat Boy was also announced to be in the works last year, as was a Duffer Brothers adaptation of the horror anime Death NoteSomething Is Killing the Children hasn’t had an update in quite some time now, with the creators behind Dark last attached, but they’re now actively working on projects elsewhere, so its Netflix fate is unclear.

On the movie front, 11817 recently wrapped filming, which is a sci-fi horror. Starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, the film revolves around a family being trapped in their home with no way out. The Boy in the Iron Box, produced by Guillermo del Toro, is set to begin production in October, with David Prior directing and Rupert Friend among the cast.

An adaptation of Stephen King’s Cujo was announced earlier this year, and Sam Raimi is among the producers for Every House is Haunted, which is still in development. Also on the development list are The Hills Have Eyes For You, The Blanks, The House Across the Lake, Uprising, and White Mountains. Canceled titles include The Shambling Guide to New York City, Death Note 2, and Selfie.
