Monster Season 4: The Lizzie Borden Murders’ Cast’Netflix Release Window, and Everything We Know

American murder suspect Lizzie Borden is the focus of the fourth season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Netflix anthology series Monster. Here’s everything we know about Monster season 4 that’s currently in production in Los Angeles. 

Netflix wasn’t quick in announcing a fourth season. Rumors began swirling just ahead of Ed Gein this Summer, with Nexus Point News first reporting that the trigger had been pulled on a fourth installment.

Season 4 of the Monster anthology series dramatises the chilling stories of the worst serial killers in history. So far, the series has covered Jeffrey Dahmer, the Lyle and Erik Menendez story, and, most recently, Ed Gein. The next criminal story to be documented is Massachusetts woman Lizzie Borden, who was accused of brutally murdering her father and stepmother, Andrew and Abby Borden, with an axe. She was later acquitted of the murders during a trial in 1893. Borden’s story sparked immense media attention, being named the trial of the century.

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan continue as showrunners for the fourth season. Max Winkler, who has worked on prior seasons of the show, will return to direct the opening episode.

The official logline for the season reads:

This installment of the anthology series would follow Lizzie Borden. Borden lived in Massachusetts in the late 1800s. In 1892, she was accused of murdering both her father and her stepmother with an axe at their shared home. Borden was eventually acquitted of the crimes, but the brutal nature of the murders attracted nationwide attention and contributed to Borden’s place in popular culture.

Who has been cast in Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story?

For the first time in the “franchise’s” history, there’ll be several returning actors from prior seasons, mostly from season 3, The Ed Gein Story.

25-year-old actress Ella Beatty (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) has been cast as Lizzie Borden. Another notable casting sees Charlie Hunnam, who played Ed Gein in season 3, return to the franchise as Lizzie’s father, Andrew Borden.

The full list of confirmed cast members includes:

• Ella Beatty (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans) as Lizzie Borden
• Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim) as Andrew Borden
• Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, Corsage) as Bridget Sullivan, the Bordens’ live-in maid
• Rebecca Hall (The Night House, The Prestige) as Abby Borden
• Billie Lourd (American Horror Story, Star Wars sequel trilogy) as Emma, Lizzie’s older sister
• Jessica Barden (The End of the F***ing World) as Nance O’Neill, a close friend of Lizzie

Moreover, according to a recent Variety report, the series has also cast Sarah Paulson as serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Paulson has a long-standing creative partnership with Monster writer Ryan Murphy, collaborating on projects such as American Horror Story and Ratched. The report noted that she is in “final talks” for the role. This casting is head-turning and perhaps even headscratching, as Wuornos lived decades after Lizzie Borden, whose crimes occurred between 1989 and 1990. She worked in street prostitution in Florida, where she shot dead and robbed a reported seven clients. Wuornos was executed in 2002.

The addition of Aileen Wuornos suggests that the series will jump forward in time, exploring how Borden’s acts impacted and inspired later crimes. Season 3 took a similar direction, examining how Ed Gein’s murders inspired legendary filmmakers, such as Tobe Hooper’s slasher The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Alfred Hitchcock’s genre-defining movie Psycho.

Netflix has already explored Aileen Wuornos’ story in documentary form, releasing Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers on October 30, 2025.

Where is Monster Season 4 in Production?

Production on Monster season 4 has been underway in Los Angeles since September 2025 and will wrap in March 2026. It’s also rumored to shoot some scenes in Chicago, but we haven’t been able to confirm this. A tentative wrap date is set for March 10th.

When will Monster season 4 arrive on Netflix? 

Netflix has not yet set a release date for Monster season 4. We know that filming will wrap sometime in March 2026, suggesting a potential premiere date in Fall 2026. We’ll keep you posted!
