Kevin Bacon Romantic Comedy ‘The Best You Can’ Sets Netflix Streaming Premiere

You may already have lots of plans on Christmas Day, but if you’re in the United States, you can now add watching the brand new Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick romantic comedy film The Best You Can to your streaming itinerary. 

The movie appears to have skipped a theatrical release and was released by Sony Pictures directly to home video, premiering on digital (VOD) and physical media on November 25th. The film comes to Netflix as part of Sony Pictures’ first window deal beginning on December 25th in the US for 18 months.

The official synopsis, via the official Sony Pictures site, for the new film reads:

“Cynthia Rand, a New York City urologist has her neatly ordered world turned upside down when her husband begins to slide into dementia. Stan Olszewski, an underachieving security guard, drifts through life without much direction. Their worlds collide in this smart and edgy comedy about two people adrift who find an unexpected connection when they need it most.”

Who’s behind the film? Michael J. Weithorn serves as both writer and director on the feature, having previously worked on several major series, including The King of Queens, Family Ties, Ned and Stacey, and True Colors.

Kevin Bacon plays Stan Olszewski, and Kyra Sedgwick plays Cynthia Rand, while Judd Hirsch appears as Warren Rand. Brittany O’Grady features as Sammi, Olivia Luccardi portrays CJ Moretti, and Meera Rohit Kumbhani plays Pramila Mahesh. Ray Romano takes on the role of Doug Finkelman, with Misha Brooks as Henry Gallo, Heather Burns as Rosemary, and Rob Benedict as Rob. The cast also includes Victor Williams as Jerome, Luz Ozuna as Yolanda, Fawad Siddiqui as Matoush, and Mahadeo Shivraj as Dr. Sarafzadeh.

Most of the reviews for the film were published in June, when it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Variety dubbed the film an “unassuming dramedy” that “feels comfortingly sweet thanks to an earned ending and the real-life couple’s natural on-screen ease.” The film has a 6.4/10 on IMDb at the time of publication.

This is one of three confirmed Sony Pictures Home Entertainment movies set to premiere on Netflix in the United States throughout December. White and Cuba Gooding Jr, and the latter starring Dean Norris.
