Judy Garland is somewhere over the rainbow, looking proudly down at her daughters, Liza Minnelli and Lorna Luft.
The late actress welcomed Minnelli with director Vincente Minnelli on March 12, 1946. She then welcomed Luft on Nov. 21, 1952, and son Joey, born March 29, 1955, with producer Sid Luft.
Luft, 73, offered a rare insight into her relationship with her sister, now 79, at The Pierre hotel’s Red Diamond 95th Anniversary Gala in New York City on Thursday, Nov. 20.

“She’s great. She’s in Los Angeles,” said Luft, while speaking to E! News. “We talk on the phone a lot, because I live back in New York. So, everything’s really, really — she’s great.”
While both Luft and Minnelli tend to keep a low profile these days, Luft has been a proud supporter of Wicked.
Garland, who died in 1969 at the age of 47, starred as Dorothy Gale in the 1939 adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz.

When part one of the two-part adaptation premiered in November 2024, Luft went on Instagram to share that the film was “breathtaking to look at” and “everything I wanted it to be.”
“I told the genius Director Jon Chu that he had picked up the torch, the broom, and the wand, and carried it forward; and thanked him for adding to the family,” she wrote.
While speaking with natflixonlyfans.com this past April, Luft said she believes her late mom “would’ve loved” Wicked.

She added when asked what songs she thinks her mother would have loved the most: “I have no idea. But she would’ve loved it.”
Fans who are interested in learning more about Garland’s family — specifically Minnelli — can look out for her forthcoming memoir, Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!, available for preorder now.
The book, which, per an official synopsis, tells Minnelli’s “fascinating, untold story,” arrives on bookshelves March 10, 2026.
Wicked: For Good is in theaters now.
