Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Set to Leave Netflix Games

San Andreas will be following Vice City and GTA II which were removed from Netflix last year.

Bad news, Grand Theft Auto fans – one of the series’ most iconic entries, San Andreas, which has been available for free as part of your Netflix subscription for the past two years, will soon be leaving Netflix’s offerings and become unplayable beginning in mid-December 2025.

As you may remember, Netflix secured access to all three Grand Theft Auto Trilogy remasters, dubbed the Definitive Editions, back in December 2023. Both GTA III and Vice City were on Netflix for only a single year before leaving in late 2024, but San Andreas, Netflix’s second-most-popular game, stayed for another year. Not only did the game rank as Netflix’s second most-played game, but it’s also one of the most downloaded, with over 10 million downloads on Android alone.

First released in 2004, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains one of Rockstar’s most beloved open-world sandboxes. Set across the fictional state of San Andreas, the game follows CJ as he returns home to Los Santos and gets pulled back into gang politics, crooked cops, and the wider criminal underworld. The Definitive Edition on Netflix restored the classic campaign with HD textures and major quality of life improvements.

The game received a few updates while on Netflix, with the most recent in March 2024.

The news comes as Netflix just unveiled it’d be the home for another Rockstar Games title, beginning on December 2nd, with Red Dead Redemption getting a full port to mobile and becoming part of the Netflix Games offerings.

It’s not the only game departing in December, either. Another Take-Two Interactive title is leaving in the form of Civilization VI, along with another dozen titles, including an internal Netflix game that’s being closed down for good.

A removal notice for the game’s departure can be found on the official Netflix website and in the Netflix app. You’ll also see a removal notice on the iOS and Google Play Store pages in due course, although there won’t be any notification within the game itself.

We’ve embedded a screenshot of the game page on the website that states that your “Last day to play” is on December 12th, 2025. Netflix could strike a last-minute deal to keep San Andreas as part of Netflix’s gaming offerings, but we’ve only seen that happen once before, and it was only delaying its departure by a few months.

Of course, Netflix Games departures aren’t quite like when titles leave Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus and become purchasable outside the subscription offering. Once a game leaves Netflix, it’s essentially bricked on your device, with your only option being to uninstall it. On the bright side, the game is available on the storefronts for £18.99, meaning that it’s not leaving mobile entirely, but there is a significant caveat: you won’t be able to port over your Netflix game save.
