In Hindu traditions, Ekadashi is the day reserved to pray to Lord Vishnu. It comes twice a month, on the 11th day of the waxing and waning phases of the moon, hence the name ‘Ekadashi’. It is said that Lord Vishnu’s powers and blessings are maximum on this day. Hence many people observe fasts for Lord Vishnu’s blessings. In December, there are two Ekadashis in December: Mokshada and Saphala.

Mokshada Ekadashi, also called ‘Mauna Ekadashi’ or ‘Maun Agyaras,’ is an important day for devotees, who observe a vow of silence (‘maun’) throughout the day. In some states of South India and areas around Odisha, this Ekadashi is also referred to as ‘Vaikuntha Ekadashi’. The Ekadashi day will be on December 1, 2025.
It is said that Lord Vishnu forgets the sins and immoral actions of his devotees on this day. This day also marks Gita Jayanti in 2025, and hence it will be beneficial to give a copy of the Bhagavad Gita to someone in need, so that they can receive the blessings of Lord Krishna. It is believed that listening to the Bhagavad Gita on this day gives the same benefits as performing a sacred Ashwamedha Yajna.
