Civilization VI: Platinum Edition is preparing to exit Netflix’s mobile games library, marking the end of its run on the platform. First added in December 2024, the turn-based strategy classic gave subscribers unlimited access to its empire-building gameplay, complete with all six content packs and the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions.
This is the second time the game has been set to leave the platform. This article was first published in September, reporting that the game would depart in October. As we mentioned at the time, the removal banner disappeared, and the game looked like it had been renewed.
However, the pesky removal notice is back, claiming that your “Last day to play” is on December 4th, meaning the game will be taken off of the app stores, the game will become unplayable, and your game saves will be lost to time.
Netflix has not responded to repeated requests for comment.
The series, famous for inspiring the phrase “just one more turn,” has captivated players for more than three decades, with Civilization VI considered its most ambitious entry yet. Through a mix of diplomacy, science, culture, religion, or all-out conquest, players could shape the destiny of their chosen civilization while facing off against iconic historical leaders. Its removal from Netflix means fans will soon need to look elsewhere to continue their campaigns, signaling another shift in the platform’s evolving approach to games.
If you’re thinking, “damn, that hasn’t been long”, then you’d be correct. The game was revealed at Netflix’s Geeked Week 2024, with a release date eventually confirmed for December 5th, 2024.
Now, just 10 12 months later, we’re going to see the game depart, with a notice currently confirming that your “Last day to play” is on September 30th, meaning it’ll be unavailable on October 1st. It’ll be removed from the app store, and the game will no longer load, with game saves lost.
On the bright side, Civilization VI still exists on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store without Netflix, though it includes ads and in-app purchases, and notably has a 1.6-star rating (compared to Netflix’s 4.6 on Android).
Over the summer, we covered Netflix’s most-played games, and Civilization VI didn’t appear in any of the daily top 10s.
As we’ve been covering throughout the year, Netflix Games has undergone significant changes in 2025. We’ve already reported on dozens of games leaving the service, and many planned projects have been canceled with a shift of focus away from indie games for mobile.
Netflix does have an upcoming slate that includes WWE2K 2025 scheduled for this Fall, and the streamer just confirmed a slate of new kids’ mobile games, including one for each of the new Dr. Seuss shows coming up, in addition to PAW Patrol Academy, Toca Boca Hair Salon 4, and LEGO® DUPLO® World NETFLIX. Elsewhere, focus is on gaming for Netflix on connected devices and web browsers, with multiple unannounced titles currently in beta testing. Black Mirror and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt interactive specials are also expected to return under the games tab.
