It’s now been a year since Car Masters: Rust to Riches returned for Season 6 on Netflix. Will it be back for Season 7? The answer is no. The show has been quietly canceled behind the scenes.
Produced by MAK Pictures, the car restoration series focused on the crew from Gotham Garage as they give classic older cars modern makeovers. It premiered on Netflix in September 2018 and was released annually from 2020 through 2024, with 6 seasons and 48 episodes.
On Instagram, show star Constance Nunes confirmed that Netflix had pulled the plug on the series, saying it was “canceled a while ago.”
Further speaking about the cancellation, Constance said, “It has 6 seasons, which is a long time for any show to go… sometimes it’s time for people on the show to move on, sometimes networks want to move on to fresh ideas… lots of reasons…”
Our understanding is that reality shows such as Car Masters: Rust to Riches could be revisited in the future, although the likelihood in this instance seems slim. Although Netflix has launched all manner of unscripted shows in recent years, very few have gotten renewal orders. As we covered just recently, titles like Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, Indian and Jewish Matchmaking, and others have all been quietly canceled behind the scenes.
What was the reason for the cancellation? I think it comes down to declining viewership. As we can see from the debuts of each of the seasons in the weekly top 10s, viewership was steadily declining season over season.
Netflix Viewership Data – 1 Week Analysis
The show has a 7.4 on IMDb, but it still drew plenty of fire and criticism from fans. In the comment section on Reddit, one fan wrote, “I’m sad to see it gone forever, because it was the train wreck that just kept on crashing. Maybe a weekend marathon rewatch is in my future.”
While the Netflix show is no more, all the main cast members remain incredibly active on Instagram with their car creations—you can find their handles below.
