Netflix has finally confirmed that Black Doves season 2 filming is underway and rounded out the cast as it continues production in the United Kingdom, having begun in September. Ambika Mod, Babou Cessay, Sam Riley, Neve Campbell, Sylvia Hoeks, Goran Kostic, and Samuel Bennett have all been cast in Black Doves season 2. Here’s everything we know about the new cast members and their roles.

One of the best new shows from 2024, Black Doves is a British crime-thriller series created by Joe Barton. It stars Keira Knightley as Helen Webb, a spy from a mysterious shadow organisation, who is publicly married to the British Defence Secretary. After the death of her lover, her secret identity as a spy is at risk, so the Black Doves send Sam, played by Ben Wishaw, to protect her.

Starting with Ambika Mod, she will play Laila, described as “an acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent who is sent to help Helen on a mission.” The actress previously starred in the Netflix adaptation of One Day as Emma.

Babou Ceesay plays Mr. Conteh, one of the Black Doves executives with “suspicious motivations.” A new ally for Helen and Sam or a new antagonist? He recently starred in the Disney+ series Alien: Earth.

Sam Riley will play the role of Patrick, “an emissary from a mysterious organisation, who offers Sam a lifeline.” Riley is best known for his roles as Diaval in Maleficent and Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Neve Campbell has joined the cast as Cecile Mason, who, interestingly, hasn’t been given any form of character description. Advisary or ally? We can’t wait to find out. Campbell is most well-known for starring as Sidney in the Scream franchise.

Three further cast members have been revealed: Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049) as Katie Chernov, Goran Kostic (Ant-Man and The Wasp) as Alexi Chernov, and Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful) as Jerry.

Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire have already been confirmed to be reprising their roles as Helen Webb, Sam Young, and Reed.

Production Underway on Black Doves Season 2

Alongside the casting news, Netflix confirmed that production on season 2 is underway, as it has been since late September 2025, with a planned wrap sometime in February 2026.

Joe Barton, the series creator, had the following to say:

“I couldn’t be more excited to delve back into the world of our murderous little spy family. To have so many of our amazing cast returning and also being able to add some of my absolute favourite actors into the mix is such a great joy. Downing Street will never be the same again…”

The Vice President of Content for Netflix UK, Anne Mensah, shared her excitement Netflix has for the series return:

“To say we are over excited about welcoming the Black Doves team back to Netflix would be an understatement.  This is what happens when best in class writing meets best in class directing and extraordinary acting in a dark alley with guns and champagne.  We couldn’t be more thrilled and we know the Black Doves fandom is waiting!”

What is the Plot of Season 2?

Netflix has provided an updated logline for Black Doves season 2:

“Helen (Keira Knightley) is still betraying her nation’s secrets to the covert organisation she serves: the Black Doves. But after the misadventures of last Christmas, and with her husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan), preparing to become Prime Minister, she is walking a more treacherous line than ever.

As Helen’s enigmatic handler Mrs Reed (Sarah Lancashire) is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, Helen is reunited with her best friend Sam (Ben Whishaw). The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits. As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponised, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything. With all the explosive wit of Series 1, Helen and Sam’s mission leads them back to old friends and enemies, through the dark decisions and painful sacrifices of their pasts, and right to the heart of the Black Doves.”
