Avatar fans, rejoice! The third and final season of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender remake has officially wrapped filming.

Back when Netflix debuted its live-action remake of the beloved Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender in 2024, the series received a mixed reception. It was undeniably the best attempt at an adaptation of the beloved animated show, but it didn’t quite receive the same plaudits as the live-action One Piece. Even so, the darker and grittier take on the original was welcomed by many, seeing the streamer renew the show for two additional seasons, through to its natural conclusion.

In terms of viewership, Avatar soared to the top of Netflix’s charts on release, accumulating 154.4 million hours watched in its first week. At 21.2 million views, it ranked higher than One Piece, another big-budget adaptation of a beloved animated show (which garnered 18.5 million views).

Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 has not yet debuted; it was filmed back-to-back with season 3 as part of a massive production. Season 2 wrapped filming back in May 2025, with the third and final season entering production straight after. Both seasons are now in post-production.

“When we started working on Season 2, we gathered three forces: integrity, hope, and joy. And here we are, almost three years later, wrapping the end of production with an immensely talented and devoted team that met those ideals and exceeded them,” executive producer and writer Christine Boylan told Netflix TUDUM. “I am eternally grateful to be part of this important, hilarious, action-packed team that is bringing this epic live-action story to the world.”

Following the announcement that the series has officially wrapped, Netflix shared a photo of the six core cast members: Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Zuko), Miya Cech (Toph), and Maria Zhang (Suki).

In the immediate reaction to the news, star Ian Ousley (Sokka) took to Instagram to express a heartfelt sentiment on the wrap. “Love this show and these people more than I’m capable of expressing.”

Season 2 introduces fans to a ton of new cast members taking on both new characters and fan-favourite heroes from the original series. The most notable new cast member is Miya Cech, who plays Toph Beifong, one of the most popular members of Team Avatar. Other new cast members include Jon Jon Briones as Piandao, Tantoo Cardinal as Hama, Chin Han as Long Feng, Hoa Xuande as Professor Zei, and Justin Chien as King Kuei. We’ve compiled a list of the new additions here.

When will Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 premiere on Netflix?

Netflix has not yet set a release date for Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2, but we expect it to premiere in early 2026. It’s also likely that the third and final season will also debut in 2026. On Instagram, Netflix’s official page Netflix Golden wrote: “That’s a series wrap on Avatar: The Last Airbender… and exciting season 2 updates are coming very soon.”
