After a funny and charming second season of A Man on the Inside, we were hopeful that Netflix would renew Michael Schur’s comedy for a third season. However, after a poor start in the Netflix top 10s, a third season might not be on the horizon. Here’s what we know so far.

A Man on the Inside is a Netflix Original comedy series created by Mike Schur, the creator of other beloved comedies such as Parks and Recreation and The Good Place, and a writer on The Office. The series is produced by Schur’s production company, Fremulon. Ted Danson produced and stars as the series lead, Charles, a retired engineering professor who is hired by a private investigator to go undercover at a San Francisco retirement home to help uncover the thief of a valuable ruby necklace.

Since the series was first released on Netflix on November 21, 2024, and June 30th, 2025, A Man on the Inside has amassed 29.4 million views. The series was one of several successful comedies, such as Nobody Wants This and Running Point, released on Netflix within a short period.

At the time of updating, Netflix has yet to announce a renewal for A Man on the Inside. It’s likely that, as with the first season, renewal will depend on the second season’s performance. Multiple factors go into a renewal decision, and one of the most significant ways we can see whether a show will be renewed is the weekly top 10s Netflix releases.

As a reminder, season 1 spent 5 weeks in Netflix’s global top 10s, amassing 80.4 million viewing hours and 20.2 million completed views. In its first week, it picked up 6.9M views.

In season 2, the show missed the Netflix top 10s entirely for the week ending November 23rd. That suggests it picked up fewer than 2.3M views (Absentia season 3 picked up that in #10). Obviously, we don’t know how close it got to that, but it does suggest an over 66% views drop season over season.

In the absence of Netflix data, we can turn to FlixPatrol to see how well the series is performing in the daily top 10s. In case you didn’t know, they track the daily top 10s in over 90 countries around the world and assign points to the show depending on how many countries it ranks in and where it ranks. From here, you can see the stark difference in performance. In all countries, the show is struggling to show up as it did back in late 2024, as you can see below:

Perhaps the data will swing in favor in the weeks to come, but with Stranger Things coming up next, the chances seem small. We have seen Netflix be more lenient in its comedy renewals in recent years, so we’ll have to wait and see.

What to expect from A Man on the Inside season 3?

Warning: The following section contains spoilers. Proceed with caution!

While Charles didn’t “solve” the case, he did, in fact, deduce that Holly was responsible for the blackmail against Beringer, who led a rebellion against the Vinick deal with some of the faculty. Dr Ben Cole took all the blame to protect Holly and anyone else involved in the sabotage of the Vinick deal.

Charles went to visit the now-retired Dr Ben Cole, who was struggling to adjust to retirement. He enlisted Didi’s help to help Ben move into Pacific View, where he could have company and a new purpose. Before long, Ben had joined the book club, and while for a second it looked like he and Elliot were going to argue, they instead bonded over their mutual dislike of Charles.

With that ending, there’s no clear indication of what happens next for Charles, who has now been granted his own personal license to become a Private Investigator. So the question is, for season 3, does Charles continue to work for Julie? Or does he take some solo cases for himself? It would be fun to see more of Charles taking on smaller investigations on his own, only to stumble onto a much bigger conspiracy.

There’s also a question of romance: Will a new romantic interest be introduced for Charles, or will Mona make a dramatic return after her course in Croatia comes to an end? There’s also the matter of Didi and Julie, with the former coming clean that she thought there was a vibe between them and that she only hired Julie to spend some time with her. At the very least, the pair will be going on a date, and hopefully, we’ll see that relationship bloom in the third season.

The first season of A Man on the Inside premiered on Netflix on November 21, 2024, and the second season premiered on November 20, 2025. If it follows a similar cadence and picks up a swift renewal and gets back into production fast, that’d suggest a November 2026 return.
