From Netflix Originals to licensed content, here are 10 fantastic superhero shows and movies available for streaming right now on Netflix.

Thanks to Marvel and DC, and even streamers like Prime Video (which has The Boys and Invincible), the superhero genre is one of the most ubiquitous in Hollywood nowadays. Netflix has gotten in on the act a few times over the years through both original shows, movies, and adaptations of beloved comics. Whether you want something with plenty of wit, or a series that takes a dark spin on the genre, we’ve listed 10 of the best superhero shows and movies that you can stream right now on Netflix.

How I Became a Superhero

  • Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy
  • Rating: TV-MA
  • Release Date: July 9, 2021
  • Director: Douglas Attal
  • Cast: Pio Marmaï, Leïla Bekhti, Vimala Pons
  • Language: French
  • Runtime: 97 min

Based on Gérald Bronner’s novel, French action movie How I Became a Superhero is a gritty twist on the genre. Set in a world where both humans and superheroes coexist, a drug becomes available that allows humans to gain powers. This prompts a lone cop and a detective to investigate a dark plot involving the super-powered drugs.

How I Became a Superhero is a clever blend of police drama and superhero thriller. It’s got excellent action, shocking twists, and leaves fans desperate for more. While the ending leaves plenty of avenues for the story to explore — especially between Moreau (Pio Marmaï) and Lily (Léonie Souchaud) — Netflix never renewed it for a sequel.

Project Power

  • Genre: Action, Crime, Sci-Fi, Thriller
  • Rating: R
  • Release Date: August 14, 2020
  • Director: Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman
  • Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jamie Foxx, Rodrigo Santoro, Machine Gun Kelly
  • Language: English
  • Runtime: 111 min

Watch on Netflix

Headlined by Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Dominique Fishback, this action-packed thriller doesn’t have all the traditional superhero tropes, but it’s a genre movie at heart. Set in an alternate, future version of New Orleans, we follow the trio as they fight against a pill that grants users 5 minutes of a randomly selected superpower. Superpowers are dangerous by definition, especially if they fall into the wrong hands — what happens if a terribly dangerous power is bestowed on a dangerous person?

Project Power received mixed reviews on release. Critics praised the performances and action, but criticised the story for being predictable and cliché.

Code 8

  • Genre: Action, Crime, Drama
  • Rating: TV-MA
  • Release Date: February 29, 2024
  • Director: Jeff Chan
  • Cast: Robbie Amell, Stephen Amell, Alex Mallari Jr.
  • Language: English
  • Runtime: 100 min

Code 8 has a strange origin: it’s an extended, big-budget version of a 2016 short film.

Cousins Stephen and Robbie Amell star in the 2019 Netflix remake. The story follows a man with electrokinetic superpowers who utilises them to help out a criminal organisation, all to make enough cash to pay for care for his sick mother. The movie was praised for its world-building, plunging fans into a complex and well-thought-out sci-fi world.

A sequel, Code 8: Part II, was released in 2024. Netflix has not green-lit a third movie, although the creative team certainly has plans for another movie.

The Old Guard

  • Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
  • Rating: R
  • Release Date: July 2, 2025
  • Director: Victoria Mahoney
  • Cast: Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts
  • Language: English
  • Runtime: 105 min

Watch on Netflix

Based on the popular comic of the same name by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, The Old Guard was made into a movie starring Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, and Harry Melling.

The movie follows a group of immortals — Andy, Booker, Joe, and Nicky— who work as mercenaries. However, when they’re sent on a mission that turns out to be a ruse, their secret is spilled, and they must fight for their freedom.

The Old Guard was a standout performer at Netflix. A follow-up, The Old Guard 2, premiered in July 2025 (although ratings on the sequel were nowhere near as strong). There’s plenty more source material if Netflix wants to continue making movies.

Set in London, this 2024 superhero series was created by Rapman. It follows five South Londoners who inexplicably acquire superpowers, the only connection between them being that they’ve all got a family history of sickle cell disease. With their newfound powers, they struggle to adapt to their daily lives. And when they find each other, they fight against an organisation determined to control them.

Supacell is not just a superhero show, but an exploration and a love letter to life in South London, as well as a homage to hip-hop. It currently holds a perfect 100% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Supacell is officially returning for season 2. In October 2025, showrunner Rapman confirmed that the next batch of episodes had begun filming.

The Umbrella Academy

  • Cast: Aidan Gallagher, Elliot Page, Tom Hopper
  • Language: English
  • Runtime: 60 mins

Based on the beloved comics by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá, Netflix’s adaptation of The Umbrella Academy is one of the most unique and zany superhero shows you’ll ever watch. It follows a dysfunctional family of adopted siblings, each with bizarre and oddly specific superpowers.

The series follows the siblings, each caught up in their own dramas, but brought together by the mystery surrounding their father’s death. Moreover, when the youngest sibling, known as Number Five, learns that the world may end through an unknown yet imminent apocalypse, he ardently makes measures to prevent it; and yes, that includes plenty of time-travelling antics.

The Flash

Arrow is leaving Netflix in December 2025, but The Flash will remain in the streamer’s library for a little while longer. The Flash was the first ‘Arrowverse’ spinoff show, and it’s arguably the best of the lot. Grant Gustin stars as Barry Allen, the titular Flash, a forensic investigator who gains his superpowers in a freak accident, and goes on to use his super-speed as a force for good in Central City.

With 184 episodes, you won’t finish this series in a flash, but it’ll keep you invested, especially in the excellent early seasons.

Venom: The Last Dance

  • Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
  • Rating: PG-13
  • Release Date: February 25, 2025
  • Director: Kelly Marcel
  • Cast: Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple
  • Language: English
  • Runtime: 110 min

The Venom movies are divisive among viewers, but there’s absolutely no denying that they’re an extremely good time and a lot of fun. The trilogy made its final bow with The Last Dance in 2024. Of course, Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock, and other cast members include Rhys Ifans as Martin Moon, Stephen Graham as Patrick Mulligan, and Juno Temple as Dr. Teddy Paine.

In The Last Dance, the connection between Eddie and Venom is more tense and precarious than it’s ever been. The two face immediate threats from both sides: Eddie from a military force, and Venom from invading symbiotes.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Garfield returned for a sequel in 2014 before making his triumphant return to the role in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.

My Hero Academia is one of the most celebrated anime series of all time. Set in a world where superpowers (better known as ‘Quirks’) are common, the series follows Izuku Midoriya, a young boy who’s enlisted by the world’s greatest hero, All Might, to enrol in a prestigious school for superheroes.

Netflix announced a live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia in 2022, with Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi) on board as a screenwriter, and Shinsuke Sato (Alice in Borderland) set to direct. Filming is set to take place in late 2026.
